The Hawaiian Islands are known for warm breezes through palm trees, endless beaches, lush volcanoes and soft strains of the ukulele. The Throwdowns are about to add a whole new element to what puts Hawaii on the map.   Strong in a number of unexpected ways, The Throwdowns have developed their own indie rock, pop, and post-punk sound that encompasses dance and reggae, all with an identifiable connection to Hawaii.  It's this unique sound, hook-laden songs, big attitude and killer live performances that are causing the buzz about this band. Fronted by charismatic Canadian powerhouse vocalist & performer Erin Smith, and rounded out with Maui's favorite airborn punk-rock bass player Kimo Clark, Big Island's guitar & production gem Ola Shaw and the most powerful drummer on Maui, Ian Hollingsworth, the four members create a sound that is much bigger than the sum of their already impressive talents and backgrounds.  Released on August 28th 2009, and re-released on ADA/Warner in January 2010, The Throwdowns debut EP "Don't Slow Down" has landed on many critical Best-Of Lists for 2009. Their debut single “Kihei Town”, has raced to the 1 spot in various radio formats from rock to top 40, and the buzz on newest singles "Stolen Car" and "On the Radio" is building. Their album currently sits in the 1 position at Barnes & Noble Maui, having out sold the Beatles remastered releases in September, 2009. Since the release of their album, The Throwdowns have shared the stage with The Fray, Panic at the Disco, Bad Brains, 311, Matisyahu and The English Beat, and have been compared to the likes of Santogold, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Pretenders, The Gossip, Feist and The Clash “Don't Slow Down” encompasses island-chill and punk-rock ruckus, all at the same time. With classic pop songwriting chops and dance beats to keep even fans of club music satisfied, the album is a stellar beginning to The Throwdowns' career. While the Hawaiian islands bask in the leisurely pace of endless summer, The Throwdowns are saying "Don't Slow Down". Can you keep up with them?
