Elephants are being killed at the rate of 30,000 a year rising to supply a demand for ivory. More than 750 rhinos have been poached this year alone when a decade ago only 15 rhinos a year were lost to poachers. And the combined trade in wildlife across the globe is estimated to be worth as much as US$10 billion. This is a global crises affecting not only our planet’s most iconic species, but also public health, economic growth and national security.

Join us for an evening for drinks and dancing and to learn how we can save elephants and rhinos from poaching!

By supporting Splash Ball you'll be helping NRDC fight to stop the illegal wildlife trade:

- By launching a national public campaign aimed at changing the purchasing behavior of influencers in the Chinese markets, primarily new members of the middle class.
- Changing attitudes are key to reducing the value and prestige of buying endangered animal parts.
-Working to revise China's basic laws to emphasize conservation over utilization, for which timing is critical because China's wildlife protection law will likely be presented for amendment in the coming cycle of the Chinese legislature.

-By establishing a moratorium on commercial ivory trade in the United States to reduce demand, curb illicit trafficking by removing parallel legal and illegal markets.
-Partnering with private-sector industries to institute voluntary measures to limit their involvement in trade, including U.S. shipping companies, internet search engines and online retailers.
-By closing a loophole of illegal ivory sales by compelling the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to adopt stricter regulations regarding antique ivory and/or persuading legal ivory sellers such as auction houses to voluntarily stop ivory sales.

NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization, using law, science, and the support of 1.4 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.  NRDC has offices in New York City,Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Bozeman, MT and Beijing.
