GARETH EMERY (Manchester, UK)

Garuda Records

Most DJ/producers don't crack into the DJMag Top 100 before the age of 30. Most of them don't shun major label attention. Most of them don't have them don't have the balls to call out the scene that they belong to when it's failing to deliver the goods. And some don't even produce 'their' own tracks. Gareth Emery, with his potent blend of trance, house, electro and techno, however, is not your average major league artist.

His ground-breaking podcast started back in 2006, marking him out as one of the key early adopters of the now ubiquitous format. Nominated several times for the Miami IMDA Best Podcast award, it's been a seriously important calling card for his career. “I got lucky basically. But I also never had any musical rules about the show; it was always whatever tracks I liked that week, regardless of whether they fitted my sets. Down the line that allowed me to be more innovative and varied with my DJ sets.” He's consistently voted inside the DJMag Top 100 DJs Poll - peaking at Number 7 - with his burgeoning Garuda party selling out Manchester's legendary Sankeys four times in a row and spawning a critically acclaimed compilation, The Sound Of Garuda. Building a musical brand around his name in record shops, download stores, radio and clubland has given him an all-encompassing reputation in dance music which is rivalled by few.

His 2012 is off to a huge start, with latest single Concrete Angel premiered on Judge Jules’ Radio 1 show , and its video added to the prestigious MTV Dance playlist as well as racking up 1 million YouTube plays in its first three weeks online. He’s been chosen as a resident for Las Vegas’s Marquee - one of the most outstanding club venues in the world in the city that everyone’s calling the new Ibiza - while he’s also playing the enormous Ultra Music Festival and taking Garuda to Space Miami. Clocking up air miles like nobody's business, he's massively in demand across the globe, his continually evolving sound gaining him bookings at an impressive variety of clubs and festivals the world over.

As you can probably tell, Gareth Emery is a man of hard-graft and sizeable ambition. His ambitions are impressive, with a view to produce bands and other artists in the future. His focus for the foreseeable future is on building further on the huge platform that Garuda sits on, taking his club nights and new show across the globe, while continuing to create more slices of 'anti-genre' dancefloor gold.

Previous to signing to Plasmapool and focusing on the Electro House genre, Mord Fustang released two dubstep tracks on his myspace including 'Mushroom Disco.'

K Theory (San Francisco, California)

Garuda | Simplify | Ultra

As we enter 2012, pay close attention to a sly pair of audio architects that have been steadily crafting original sounds with emotional heft, rupturing basslines, and a broken beat technique that has become all their own. With an arsenal of chart-topping tracks including over 70 original productions & remixes, K THEORY, have marked their definitive pathway through the electronic & bass music soundscape.

Their original singles entitled "18th Century Gangster Glitch & Blues" finished at #2 and #5 on the Beatport Top 100 Glitch-Hop Charts, not a surprise the album recorded sales in the top 20 at under 2011's Top Grossing Albums. Their body of work has sparked industry wide interest, with support coming from EDM demigod, Gareth Emery. Their first single of the year, “Good & Gone”, was listed as the #1 selling single for for 2012. With official remixes on the way for Adrian Lux (Ultra) & Gareth Emery (Garuda), the future is looking quite bright for K THEORY.

Seemingly incapable of exhaustion or sleep, the duo's endless studio hours have resulted in several tours across the United States, with a majority of their appearances throughout one of California's top bass capitals, San Francisco. The city has many times witnessed the performance presence of these two musical mighty men, often featured alongside industry giants such as Avicii, Nero, Dada Life, & Feed Me.

Acclaimed, respected, and supported by the collective music community their momentum is unshakeable, they are impossible to ignore.

Mark Instinct (Calgary, Canada)

Mark Instinct was always into the sounds of electronic music, but it wasn't until his introduction to drum and bass, at the age of seventeen, that he decided it was time to add his own mark on music. With impeccable taste and skill, early bookings with Hive, Pendulum, Noisia and Tech Itch started to gain him recognition in bass circles around Western Canada.

At the age of 20 years old, when Mark Instinct started experimenting with music production, he finally found his niche. Beginning with drum and bass, and dabbling in other genres, such as house, it was the grimy stripped down sounds of dubstep that ultimately caught his attention. Creating dark nasty beats, synonymous with the Western Canadian sound, Mark Instinct soon began to chisel out his own distinctive style imprinted on such releases as "Sketchy Maxx" and "Fword".
Attention from record labels 'Rottun' and 'Aufect' recordings lead to the release of "Invader" and "Badman Sound" in 2009; tracks which were soon found on the top-ten of many international DJs playlists. Additionally, a split EP contribution on Betamorph Recordings "The Humunaoid EP" and Aufect Digital "Love me Nots" releases were featured in the top ten charts of Juno, Chemical Records, & Digital Tunes.

Achievements made in 2010 followed the same upward trajectory with the release of the "15 Karat EP" on 'Dubline Audio', and a remix for DJ SS' prolific 'Formation Records'. This was then followed by the release of "Detonate" signed on Reid Speed's 'Play Me' records, charting at number two on Beatport's top 100 and remaining a chart fixture for several weeks. The end of 2010 will have Mark Instinct embarking on his first major US tour, bringing a full arsenal of tunes including his newest musical collaborations with MC Messinian of 'Planet of the Drums', BARE, and dubs from the highly anticipated second EP release on Rottun Records 'Destroyed'.

Ascending the steep slope of music with ease, this 24 year old is proving that the future will be no different. With Appearances alongside dubstep's biggest names at 'Winter Music Conference' and 'Shambhala 2011', remixes and collaborations with Bare and Dillon Francis, releases slated on 'Trill Bass Recordings', and Dieselboy's label 'Subhuman', it comes as no surprise that Mark Instinct will continue pushing musical boundaries. With tight mixing skills that have been instilled from drum and bass, melody lines of genuine electronic musicality, and the dirty sub and mid range bass that could only be contained by dubstep, Mark Instinct is this decades artist to watch.

Antiserum (San Francisco, CA.)

Antiserum is an electronic dance music producer from San Francisco, whose originating style of West Coast bass music emerged during the dawn of the Bay Area dubstep movement. His music is characterized by the use of heavy drums, rolling bass lines, and distinct melodies, with a tight production style that gives nods to hip-hop, soul, funk, drum & bass, reggae, and metal. His live DJ performances oscillate between high-octane mixes and emotional progressions, built around new and unreleased material with a focus on high energy and dance floor appeal.

Reaching a prominent international audience through Beatport in 2008, Antiserum landed the 8th best-selling dubstep track of the year. His first tour launched in 2009 to Australia and New Zealand, which set forth a whole new fan base and realm of inspiration that brought him back for a second tour two years later. By the start of 2011, he released The Swarm EP with Rottun Recordings, opened for Excision and Downlink on first full-scale dubstep production to hit the US: the 30-show Subsonic Tour. He was picked up by Caspa’s Dub Police label with his collaborative renditions of the West Coast's own "purple" sound, featuring the tracks "Zephyr" and "Purple & Gold" with Los Angeles dubstep warrior 12th Planet and the multi-faceted ill-Esha. Antiserum’s dynamic production style has also sparked collaborations with electronic artists Eskmo, DJG, ill-esha, Noah D, Triage, Mayhem, Dubsworth, Vinja, and Babylon System. Aside from his regular live DJ performances, Antiserum has also guest lectured and performed at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in the Bay Area.

2012 stands as Antiserum’s biggest year thus far, landing his collaborative track “Droid Prom” with live musician Dubsworth in the opening scenes of the CSI: Miami episode “Friendly Fire”, and releasing his co-production with 12th Planet titled “Ghost” on The End is Near EP by Scion A/V (including tracks by Skrillex, Flinch, SPL, and Kill the Noise). Antiserum's most recent production "Brick Squad Anthem", a collaboration with Atlanta bass music producer Mayhem, has been getting huge support from Skrillex, Diplo, Datsik, Flux Pavillion and lots of other key players in the bass music world. Look out for forthcoming collaborations with 12th Planet, Mayhem, & Djunya on SMOG Records very soon!
