The Forbidden Circus Feat.

REID SPEED (Play Me Records, Play Me Too Records)

Reid Speed has been a dancefloor destroyer for over a decade and is recognized worldwide as a pioneer of multi-genre genre bass music DJing. Since 2001 she has released a consistent stream of well loved mix compilations and has had many top 50 Beatport charting original and group productions/remixes. She is currently most known for founding US bass music labels Play Me Records and Play Me Too. 2011 saw her produce and co-headline the US portion of the groundbreaking Play Me Records Bass Monster Tour with FS & Cyberoptics, which received a tremendous stateside response and was sponsored by Beatport. The tour spawned a #2 charting hit of the same name by Reid & FS as well as their "Pussy Weed Money" Remix of Cold Blank's "Die Famous" for Burn the Fire which also clocked in at #2. Reid & FS's recent track "To The Sky" has been licensed to Nike and Lenovo for campaigns in 2012.
In just over 3 years, the Play Me Records and Play Me Too brand has indisputably taken the North American dubstep scene and the Beatport charts by storm, with a string of #1s, over 25 top 10s, and nearly every release charting in the top 100. They have broken more new artists than any other label of its kind, helping to launch the careers of artists like Cyberoptics, FS, J. Rabbit, Figure, Run DMT, and Bare, to name just a few. 2010 saw Play Me Records voted Dubstep Label of the Year by Beatport and Symphonic Distribution, and 2011 and 2012 have seen similar accolades.
Reid got her start in the New York City underground working behind the counter at the legendary Breakbeat Science record store. A chance trip to the UK in the summer of '97 led to her love affair with 2 step and speed garage. As one of the first US DJs to champion these genres (which morphed into todays's fidget house and dubstep), both Reid and Play Me's steady climb come as no surprise to those who know her history. Soon after she began DJing full time she was holding residencies with Stuck on Earth, Direct Drive & Camouflage. She cut her teeth playing raves, often to crowds of thousands, venues like the Limelight, as well as underground club nights while still in college at the School of Visual Arts. Producing her own tracks soon after, she was also involved in a seminal series of parties that introduced artists like Deekline, MJ Cole, & Stanton Warriors to the NYC underground. Signing to Breakbeat Science's label in 2001, she released her first mix "Resonance" to much critical acclaim, and successfully followed it up with 2003's "Life After Dark", and 2009's "Under The Influence" for Moist Music. On tours with artists like Om's Ming & FS and Colette, Dirtybird's J-Phlip, as well as on her own CD release tours, she had dialed in a precise ability to read and control crowds while flying seamlessly through BPMs. Those who have seen her live, listened to her mixes agree: whether taking the party to the next level, in the studio, or as a label boss, Reid has always forged a highly charged, forward-thinking path all her own.

With Special Guest MACHETE

MACHETE ignited his musical journey back in 1992 as DJ Rob G spinning Hip-Hop at Hollywood afterhours events such as No-Doz, What?, and Caffiend The Los Angeles underground rave culture was in it’s infancy and Rob was inspired by the techno-breakbeat music emerging out of England via vinyl records played by DJs Raw, Curious, and Oscar da Grouch.
These frantic bass-heavy beats that evolved from old-school breaks layered with HipHop and Reggae samples were intriguing and propelled him in a new direction. Rob, encouraged by his peers, changed his professional name to Machete in 1994…a title meant to evoke the nature of his mixing and cutting skills in relation to this new Jungle music.
As DJ Machete, Rob helped put Junglist Platoon on the map with gigs at nearly every Jungle party in the Greater Los Angeles area.
In March of 1999 the Junglist Platoon began hosting a weekly event called RESPECT with Machete in charge of talent bookings, promotions, as well as being a resident DJ.
In March of 2000, Machete organized a RESPECT one-off at the Winter Music Conference in Miami which successfully placed the RESPECT brand at the forefront of Los Angeles Drum and Bass. After 13+ years, RESPECT is the longest running Jungle/Drum and Bass weekly in Los Angeles in addition to being one of the most successful clubs in the United States. RESPECT is globally known for bringing the best international and stateside talent and continues to do so after settling into it’s fifth and most current venue, The Dragonfly in Hollywood.
In 2012 Machete is busier than ever, occasionally opening for mainstream Hip-Hop acts at House of Blues – Sunset Strip combined with DJ residencies at RESPECT, spinning at one-off events, taking on a new role as an agent at Circle Talent Agency, hosting a weekly RESPECT DnB RADIO program,
and engaging production projects proving his versatility as an artist.
DJ Machete’s longevity speaks for his talents, dedication, and determination which has surely solidified his place as a force in the world music scene.
