OLD TOM & THE LOOKOUTS

Website | Instagram

Old Tom & the Lookouts, spear-headed by Alex Calabrese, is a Boston-Based Indie-Folk band. Through brooding lyrics and wistful melodies, Old Tom’s projects culminate to cast a lens on mental health. Alex’s striking vocals pay homage to influences such as Tom Waits, Phoebe Bridgers, and Frightened Rabbit.

The band’s latest original record, a co-creation with violinist and vocalist Cecilia Vacanti, Just For Beasts, depicts a story of non-linear progress and perseverance.

“Just for Beasts is one of those essential records that everyone should give a spin.” (Music Mecca, 2021).

“With a folksy, easygoing sonic apparatus, band members Alex Calabrese and Cecilia Vacanti create a hauntingly beautiful project with Just for Beasts.”  (Lunar Sonar).

Old Tom & the Lookouts have been seen on Sofar Sounds stages throughout the U.S., as well as iconic venues such as Club Passim (Cambridge, MA), City Winery (Boston, MA), The Press Room (Portsmouth, NH), Pete’s Candy Store (NYC, NY), and Skylark Lounge (Denver, CO).

SEÁN BARNA

Website | Instagram

In May 2023, SEÁN BARNA released a rock LP, An Evening at Macri Park, on the legendary indie label, Kill Rock Stars, to widespread critical acclaim from outlets such as NPR, Pitchfork, FLOOD Magazine, and Billboard. In their review of the LP, Pitchfork offered comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Harry Nilsson, and Rufus Wainwright, writing, "this is raucous, messy, and emotionally rich music, as any art about queer nightlife ought to be."

Seán is no stranger to queer nightlife, but it’s the peaceful time he spent living in and visiting the most remote areas of rural western Colorado that animates the heart of his new fol EP, Internal Trembling. Recorded at the legendary Blackbird Studio in Nashville, the city where Seán now lives, four of the five songs feature the Nashville-based, traditional bluegrass supergroup, Hawktail. A fifth song, “Firefly,” finds Seán alone with his guitar and piano.

The visceral, intense performances Seán has become known for have always been rooted in his willingness to live deep within a song, whether he’s alone with an acoustic guitar or fronting his 6-piece rock band. On Internal Trembling, stripped of any hint of the glam or roots rock influences of his previous recordings, Seán demonstrates just how comfortable he’s become with the earnestness that defines him as a songwriter.

Hawktail is Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers, Dave Rawlings), Brittany Haas (Punch Brothers, Steve Martin), Jordan Tice (Yola, Dave Rawlings, Steve Martin), and Dominick Leslie (Molly Tuttle).

In addition to An Evening at Macri Park, Seán’s previous releases include, Pictures of an Exhibitionist (2014, LP), Margaret Thatcher of the Lower East Side (2020, EP), CISSY. (2018, EP), and Cutter Street (2012, EP), and the single, “Straight Motherfuckers and Their Famous Friends.” In 2021, Seán opened for Counting Crows on their 22-date national tour.

SO BLUE

Website | Instagram

So Blue is a progressive folk duo that blends sensitive instrumentals with evocative lyricism. With earthy vocals, dynamic guitar, and rich string bass, the group creates timeless songs that speak to our shared humanity – the good and the bad. The band, consisting of Devon Gardner on vocals/guitar and Adam Gurczak on double bass, is releasing its debut EP, In Water and Waves, in April 2024. A five-track melancholic folk EP, In Water and Waves, features five original songs, telling stories about love, loss, and (as many can relate to) shitty roommates. Ambient bowed string bass paired with poignant guitar serve as the bedrock on the album, over which lyrics tell personal and intimate stories. Inspired by the likes of Watchhouse, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Courtney Marie Andrews, their music harkens to the nature-inspired roots of Americana blended with classical and contemporary songs, sounds, and stories.

Originally having met in the sun-soaked Arizona desert, bandleaders Devon Gardner and Adam Gurczak now call the bustling streets of Boston home. Whether playing as a duo or in compliments of three or four with other artists, So Blue offers songs of solace, inviting you to find beauty in the wilds.
