The Filipino-born singer-songwriter beabadoobee (born Bea Kristi) grew up in London and began playing guitar and writing songs at age 17. In 2017, her first original song, "Coffee," became a surprise hit after going viral on social media. She signed a record deal in 2018 with indie label Dirty Hit, which released her debut EP, Lice. Although Kimya Dawson and Elliott Smith influenced her early songwriting, Sonic Youth and Pavement provided the inspirations for the grunge-flavored EP Space Cadet. In 2019, she was nominated for a Brit Awards Rising Star honor.
