FREQ NASTY:

Born in Fiji, raised in New Zealand, and formed musically in the dance music revolution of London in the late ’90s, FreQ Nasty started his career on the seminal UK Bass label Botchit & Scarper and moved to SKINT/Sony Records in 2003 alongside Fatboy Slim, Dave Clarke, and X-Press 2. Over the coming years, he went on to release a slew of cutting-edge Breakbeat/Garage records collaborating with &/or remixing Fatboy Slim, Kelis, KRS One, Roots Manuva, Rodney P, and Reggae legend Junior Delgado and becoming a fixture of the global Electronic Music scene. 2008 saw the release of both ‘Creator’, a collaboration with MIA producer Switch and Santigold that launched Santigold’s career, and his FABRICLIVE 42 mix CD (DJ Mag’s ‘compilation of the month’) released on London nightclub Fabric’s label, a club where FreQ held a multi-year DJ residency. He is one of Burning Man’s most loved DJs, and his signature Bass-heavy sets have been a pilgrimage for fans of the legendary Nevada desert festival for years.

The 2010s saw FreQ focusing his energies on meditation and Yoga becoming a teacher of the Tibetan Buddhist and Yoga traditions. This led to a series of workshops around the intersection of music and meditation which he has shared at Festivals, studios, and events around the world. After a grueling US tour with Opiou he dropped a number of single releases including the ‘Low FreQuency Pureland EP’(DJ Mag ‘MoneyShot’ 10/10), thru to his latest single ‘#Loveis’ single (2020) on California’s Muti Music. FreQ’s own label 'Between the Silence' has re-released his classic debut album ‘FreQ's, Geeks, and Mutilations', and his music has appeared on Mark Ronson’s ‘Watch The Sound?’ (Apple TV, 2021), Taika Waititi produced ‘Reservoir Dogs’(Hulu, 2021), 'Self Made: Madam CJ Walker' (Netflix, 2020), and Warner Brothers’ 'Black Lightning' (2019).
