Felton Music Hall Presents:
FORREST DAY with DRIFTR
plus ALWA GORDON
After a life-changing odyssey that had him stranded
in pandemic ravaged Philippines, Bay-Area based recording artist, Forrest Day, is back with new
music and his first live shows in three years.
“The experience changed me.”, says Day. “Almost like somebody hit the reset button on
me. In many ways, I’m a completely new person. I’m back finally, and more singularly focused
than I ever was.”
At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Forrest was with his wife and newborn baby in
Palawan, a relatively small island in the Philippines. In the ensuing months, what was initially
expected to be a minor short-term setback, evolved into a two-year-long military pandemic
lockdown with the airport being shut down. During that period, Day and his wife had another
child, but regulations wouldn’t allow he and his family to return to the United States. After a
long and grueling process with various government offices, Day was able to bring his family
home in April.
Day elaborates that one of the major reflections he’s experienced is his outlook on
parenthood “I used to think dads looked so miserable hauling their strollers around. But now I
get it. I love it! I get to hear my daughter calling my name when I get home, watch them play
together in the morning, and celebrate all the little victories along the way. ”
That time also saw Day create new music. Fans who have streamed his music or watched his
videos millions of times also delivered by jumping on his crowdfunding campaign to help
finance his families return and the production of his new music
Of his new music Day says that it takes a slightly different creative direction. Most of the
music I did during lockdown was inspired by writing on a guitar instead of piano. The guitar
inspired a different sound and tone in my songwriting. And honestly, there’s an extra emotional
zing here that only could have come from experiencing these type of hardships from the last
couple years.”
Along with new music comes a new live show and Forrest is fired up to make his return
to Santa Cruz with a performance at Felton Music Hall. “I’m beyond excited to be back! We’re
bringing the horns and plan on delivering an explosive show. Our shows in this area are always
special…”
