Joseph Anthony Cañas, in some circles known as J-Cony or Hyphie Hippie, is a guitarist and vocalist originally from Sacramento,CA. Cañas got his start playing electric guitar in San Jose’s DIY music scene as a member of Rough Nuggets, Dima & The Good Company, and Magick Blues Band. Cañas has stockpiled many original tunes that honor acoustic Americana sounds while capturing the grittiness of the modern Bay Area in which he grew up in. His musical goal is summed up in his moniker, Hyphie Hippie, where he looks to fuse elements of the two Bay Area movements which inspire him the most.

When Jesse C. Dienner's mom was giving birth to him, his dad snuck a boombox into the delivery room, and right as he came out, the Grateful Dead song Franklin’s Tower was playing, with its lyric: ‘if you get confused, just listen to the music play.’ Accordingly, he feels music is my birthright… and he's turned to music quite prolifically over the years… all his songs are love songs of some hue, and he plays what he calls “sex rock”—music you can hold hands to, dance to, kiss to, etc.
